I have a daughter preparing for a 2-week sleep-away camp, and among the myriad of stuff suggested to take are calling cards. This Victorian social necessity has seen a sleepy resurgence of late among ‘tweens, and I find it kind of sweet. I had some made for my daughter several years ago for her first sleep-away camp, but she was still a bit young to know how to deliver them.In keeping with current communication technology, today’s calling cards contain more and more detailed information that the originals: name, cell phone number, email address and a MySpace web address are ubiquitous. And rather than the formal, engraved calling cards ladies of a certain age might recall, today’s cards reflect the giver’s personality rather than society norms. While searching for the perfect cards for my kiddo, I came across this brief history of the calling card that made for interesting reading. Wondering where to find some for your kids? A Google search brings up more than 3 million results! Egad. So instead, you might check out one of my favorite sites, Paper Style.
A new/old way to call
